Find your place at mupla
There is a role for you here, whether you have an hour, a skill, or a heart to give. Volunteer, donate, attend an event, or simply show up.
Four ways to get involved
Choose what fits your life right now. Every form of participation matters, and you can always change your mind later.
Volunteer
Help run a program, set up an iftar, mentor a youth, pack grocery boxes, or serve on a committee. Most roles need 1-4 hours a week, and we provide orientation and training. See current openings →
Give
One-time or recurring donations fund every program we run. We accept Zakat, Sadaqah, Sadaqah Jariyah, and general fund contributions. All donations are tax-deductible. Donate now →
Attend
Show up. Our iftars, lectures, family potlucks, and seasonal celebrations are open to all. The simplest way to be part of mupla is to come through the door. See what's coming up →
Spread the word
Tell a neighbor about us. Share our posts. Invite a friend to an iftar. The work grows by word of mouth, yours matters more than you think.
What to expect when you reach out
Whether you fill out our contact form, send an email, or simply show up at an iftar, here is how we work the path from "I am interested" to "I am in":
- Within two business days, you will hear from a real person (almost always one of our staff, sometimes a long-time volunteer) who will ask a few follow-up questions and point you at the right program.
- A short orientation, 30 minutes, in person or on a call, so you know what mupla is, what it is not, and how the program you would join actually runs day to day.
- A first shift with an experienced volunteer, nobody starts alone. You will spend your first few sessions with someone who has been doing the work long enough to answer any question.
- No pressure to commit forever. You can try a program for a month, change your mind, or quietly step back. We do not chase people, and we would rather you stay because you want to than because we asked.
Find the role that fits your schedule
A few of the roles we are actively looking to fill right now, these change as our programs grow. If nothing below fits, **[tell us what you can offer →](/contact)** and we will match you with a program.
Evening & weekend programs
Qur'an circles (weeknights), youth mentorship check-ins (flexible), and weekend iftars (seasonal). Most roles fit naturally around a workday schedule.
Skills-based volunteering
Graphic design, video editing, accounting, legal services, event planning, translation. Many of our most valuable contributors give a few hours a month in their professional skill, email us to talk through a fit.
Committee & board roles
For longer-term volunteers, we have openings on the Zakat committee, programs committee, finance committee, and our community advisory board. These roles ask for a 2-hour monthly meeting and some prep.
Why people stay
Real stories from long-time volunteers on what mupla has meant to them.
I came for the iftar and stayed for the people. That was six years ago. Now I lead our refugee support program and I've made friendships that will last the rest of my life.
Bilal R.
Volunteer, 6 years
mupla gave me a way to teach Qur'an to kids that felt real, not performative. The families are engaged, the kids are eager, and I leave every circle feeling more grounded in my own practice.
Sara K.
Qur'an circle teacher
I don't have a lot of time, but the Saturday food pantry fits. Two hours, every other week, and I can see the people I'm helping. It is the most meaningful part of my week.
Tariq J.
Pantry volunteer
