Our programs

mupla runs year-round programs that serve our neighbors, support families, and bring the community together. Every program is volunteer-led and community-funded, and free or sliding-scale for anyone who walks in.

What we run

Six core programs, with new initiatives launching each year. All programs are free or sliding-scale. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Qur'an & Arabic circles

Weekly study circles for all levels, beginners learning the alphabet, intermediates reading tafsir, and advanced students working through classical texts. Childcare provided; sisters and brothers circles in parallel.

Zakat & Sadaqah distribution

Confidential, dignified assistance for families facing hardship. Our Zakat committee reviews every request, and 100% of Zakat funds go directly to eligible recipients. We also help neighbors apply for government benefits they're entitled to.

Youth mentorship

Adult mentors from the community are paired with youth (ages 11-18) for one-on-one check-ins, group outings, and a summer capstone program. Mentors commit to one hour a week for a year.

Food pantry & community fridge

A weekly food pantry open to any family in the area, plus a 24/7 community fridge stocked with fresh produce and halal staples. No paperwork, no questions, no ID required.

Iftars, lectures & community events

Weekly community iftars during Ramadan, monthly family potlucks, seasonal celebrations, and a regular lecture series on Islamic ethics, parenting, and current issues. Open to all.

Refugee & newcomer support

From airport pickups to housing help, school enrollment, and ESL classes, we walk alongside newly arrived families for their first 12 months. We currently support 18 families from Syria, Afghanistan, and East Africa.

Stories from the ground

What our neighbors say about the programs they lean on.

I was out of work for two months and the food pantry kept my family fed. They didn't ask for paperwork, didn't ask for an ID, they just gave us a box of halal groceries and asked how we were doing.

Pantry neighbor

My mentor has been a steady presence for three years. We talk about school, about my goals, about everything. I don't know where I'd be without her.

Help us run them

Every program is run by volunteers and funded by your donations. Both are essential, and both are deeply needed.
